What is Heart Disease?

CAD can lead to problems including angina, chest pain, and heart attack. Coronary Artery Disease is often caused by atherosclerosis and can be prevented through proper diet and exercise. Atherosclerosis – A disease in which plaque builds up in the arteries (main blood vessels supplying the heart). This plaque can harden and narrow the arteries, causing a narrowing of blood flow to the heart. Atherosclerosis is a leading cause of CAD, heart attack, and stroke. Heart failure is also related to atherosclerosis.
Risk Factors for Heart Disease

There are many risk factors for heart disease, but some of the most common include: — Being overweight or obese — Smoking cigarettes — Being sedentary (too little exercise) — Having high blood pressure — Having a family history of heart disease — Eating unhealthy foods
